The Trump administration’s proposed budget for fiscal year (FY) 2027 calls for cutting funding for the National Science Foundation (NSF) by more than half, from $8.8 billion in FY2026 to $4 billion in FY2027. The proposal includes more than $1 billion in cuts to the mathematical and physical sciences, and roughly $500-600 million each from biological sciences, engineering, and geosciences.
