On October 9, 2025, ProPublica reported that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is refusing to release a completed toxicity report on PFNA, a forever chemical. The report concluded that PFNA, which is found in the drinking water of 26 million people, “interferes with human development by causing lower birth weights and, based on animal evidence, likely causes damage to the liver and to male reproductive systems, including reductions in testosterone levels, sperm production and the size of reproductive organs.”
According to scientists who worked in the EPA’s Office of Research and Development, the report was “completed and ready to post” in mid-April and should have been posted within a few weeks after briefing senior officials at the agency. However, the report has still not been released, raising concerns that the EPA under the Trump administration might change the findings or simply never release the report. EPA officials have claimed that the report will be published when finalized, but agency scientists have said that, “scientifically, it was done” months ago.
